The world today is a consumer’s world. So many things enter your mind and body each day. When you seriously examine your stress level or your nutrition, you can feel a sense of heaviness. The things which you allow into your space, whether physical or emotional, affect your overall health.

Although the body is equipped to filter out natural mild toxins, there are many toxins in the modern world that lead to serious health problems over time. DoTerra oils are key in helping your body get rid of these harmful toxins.

For centuries, cultures from around the world have relied on herbs and spices as their medicine. Essential oils are concentrated forms of these herbs creating a stronger potency. They help in not only treating ailments but also in preventing inflammation and chronic disease.

Everyone can benefit from detoxing their body on a regular basis. The question is, what are the best essential oils for detoxing, and what specific organ do they compliment? Here are the best essential oils for detoxing the whole body.

1. Liver: Rosemary Essential Oil

Rosemary essential oil encourages bile production in the liver. Bile metabolizes fats and detoxifies the blood. The liver is a blood-filtering organ. It takes blood from the digestive tract, filters nutrients and sends red blood cells across the body. The liver is a storehouse for vitamins, but toxins can also tend to build up over time. Along with lifestyle changes, rosemary essential oil can be used to aid in liver health and detoxification.

How to use it: For topical use make a 50:50 mixture of rosemary and a carrier oil, such as jojoba. Massage onto the abdomen once or twice daily. For ingesting, add 1-3 drops into a warm glass of water and drink in the morning.

2. Digestive System: Ginger Essential Oil

Ginger is used worldwide in cooking and naturopathic medicines. It is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. When ginger essential oil is taken medicinally it calms the stomach and regulates the bowels. In aromatherapy, it is known as the “Oil of Empowerment” for its energizing yet soothing essence.

How to use it: Ginger essential oil is safe for ingesting since it is a common ingredient in many cuisines. Add 1-2 drops of oil into a warm glass of water and drink. It can also be used in recipes to replace whole ginger. ½ tsp of ground ginger is equal to one drop of oil.

3. Kidney: Juniper Berry Essential Oil

Kidney disease and urinary tract infections can be treated with Juniper Berry essential oil. It has diuretic, tonic and antiseptic properties. This makes it a perfect helper to the kidney as it removes toxins through increased urination.

How to use it: Do not ingest juniper oil. It should be applied topically or to a warm bath. Add a few drops to the bathtub or a warm sitz bath to help detoxify the kidney and relieve urinary tract infection.

4. Lymphatic System: Lemon Essential Oil

The lymphatic system carries toxins and waste from tissue to the bloodstream. Lemon essential oil is antimicrobial and antibacterial. It is helpful in lymph movement as the lymphatic system is reliant on muscle contractions and certain nutrients for its circulation.

How to use it: Make a lemon body scrub using 10 drops of lemon oil, 1tbsp of carrier oil (jojoba or coconut) and 1 oz. Himalayan salt. Scrub in the shower massaging swollen areas (edema or illness related).

5. Face and Body: Sandalwood Essential Oil

Sandalwood is commonly used in skincare and perfume and has numerous health benefits for the skin. Our skin is the biggest organ in the body, which means it is bombarded by external toxins all day. External toxins must be cleansed and exfoliated away.

Sandalwood oil is an excellent ingredient in skincare because of its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory nature. Studies have also shown it to be soothing for acne, dermatitis, and eczema.

How to use:

  1. Facial steam: Add 2-5 drops to steaming hot water and hold your face over it. Place a towel over your head and steam your face for a few minutes until the bowl cools.
  2. Hair and Scalp: Add a few drops to your daily shampoo and conditioner.
  3. Aromatherapy: Add a drop or two to a carrier oil and massage it into the temples. The scent of Sandalwood is very calming and centering.

Essential Oils Have Been Around For Hundreds Of Years:

For hundreds of years, traditional medicine has observed the body. Essential oils were developed from the plants and minerals used for these practices. Unlike conventional medicine, traditional practice takes a holistic approach. Practitioners will often include spiritual and emotional aspects with diagnosis and treatment.

Ayurvedic medicine is an ancient Indian medical system that is still widely used today. The western holistic health movement relies heavily on the wisdom of Ayurveda. In recent years, clinical studies have been conducted to show the effectiveness of eastern medicine.

Conventional and traditional practices are joining together all over the world. Scientists, MD’s and Naturopathic doctors are discovering how the body relies on natural means to heal itself. Medicine has never been so collaborative.

Conclusion:

Whether for occasional remedies or routine detox, essential oils should have their place in your home. Toxins such as pesticides, pollution, and stress are a real part of modern-day life. In order to prevent the long term health implications of these toxins, you need to routinely detox your body and your mind.

The benefits of detoxing are numerous, but should be done with caution. Make sure to research each essential oil, especially if being consumed. If applied topically, oils should be mixed with a carrier oil and spot tested first.

Empower your body to heal itself like it was designed to. Using essential oils is an individual journey of observing and responding to your body. Along with diet, exercise and proper sleep, essential oils work to detox, improve and maintain your overall health.
