7 Easy and Fun Ways to Meditate

To the uninitiated, learning how to meditate can be extremely difficult. Most beginners react with the thought, “What do you mean I have to just sit and do nothing for an hour?”

While it is true that when most people think of meditating, their mind immediately conjures images of a yogi in full lotus position calmly contemplating the complexity of the cosmos. In truth, meditation can take place any time, anywhere.

Here are 7 surprisingly easy ways to meditate every day.

1. Listening to Music

Putting on a pair of headphones and listening to your favorite tunes can be a great way to meditate, provided you do nothing else and devote all of your attention to listening to the music. Closer your eyes and attempt to pick out every instrument you can possibly hear. Try music with no lyrics to make this easier.

2. Drink a Cup of Tea

…Or coffee, or even hot water with lemon. If you are like most people, your morning routine likely consists of one of these items anyway, why not take advantage of the opportunity to calm your mind and ease your stress. Instead of just slurping it down, take the time to really enjoy it. Close your eyes, slow down, breathe in the aroma, and really taste the beverage as it rolls over your tongue.

3. Daily Yoga

Scientifically proven to have positive effects on the health of the body and mind, yoga can beautify your body and help you embrace the positive things in life. With all of the great instructional yoga videos being added to YouTube everyday, you can have a free yoga class right in the privacy of your own home, to tune out and calm your mind.

4. Make the Most of Your Commute

While the daily commute may be the biggest source of stress in most people’s lives, it does not have to be. Next time you drive to work, try turning off the music, stop rushing, and simply enjoy this precious quiet time that you have all to yourself.

5. Take a Walk

Walking for 30 minutes a day has been proven to have numerous health benefits for the mind and body. Getting your body moving helps pump oxygen-rich blood to your brain. Be sure to take it slow, perhaps coordinating each step to an inhale or exhale of the breath.

6. Journal

Taking a half hour to put all of your stresses, thoughts, and negative energy down on paper can be extremely therapeutic. Do not criticize or judge what you write down, simply allow your pen to glide across the page or your fingers to glide across the keyboard. Simply breathe and let the words flow as they arise in your mind.

7. Guided Meditation CDs

Taking advantage of meditation CDs or mp3s to make the most of your meditation sessions any time, any place, can help you develop your practice and make it a daily routine.

What ways do you meditate throughout the day? Let us know in the comments.
