In this day and age, everyone is striving to become healthier and better individuals. People are starting to see that their health is important, and they’re starting to explore all possible ways to take better care of themselves. That’s where new diet trends come in, lifestyle changes, exercise routines, healthier eating, organic farming, etc.

Of course, the goal to becoming healthier is ideal. We all want to enjoy our life better, don’t we? But truth be told, all these ways to achieving a healthier lifestyle can be quite expensive. Take organic food, for example. They are waaaaaay more expensive than the usual produce sold in supermarkets. Why? Well, first, the demand for these products overwhelms the supply. Next, organic products means no chemicals are used, so more labor. And there are many more factors.

Now who in their right minds would really want to spend all that money? True, it’s a safe and healthy way to get on track to a better lifestyle, but is it the only way?

Nope.

Lucky for us who don’t have millions to spend and who don’t have much time, there are other ways and means to improve our overall health and well-being, without breaking the bank.

Plan Your Meals

This will definitely take much effort, planning, preparation, and brain use, but in the end, it will definitely help you save some money. You can plot out weekly meal plans, set a strict budget, and write out a detailed list of ingredients.

Stick to Your Grocery List

Do not get sidetracked. I repeat, do not get sidetracked. Wandering around the supermarket, you will be tempted to reach for those products that look cute, that look fun, that look interesting. Do not be swayed by this. Focus on the list you made, and make sure to only get those products. Here’s a tip: Shop the perimeter of the store first. This is where whole foods are usually placed. When you find yourself wandering in the center aisles, watch out. The middle of the store usually contains the processed, unhealthy, and expensive foods.

Do Not Be Swayed by Brand Names

Don’t buy products because of the names slapped on their labels. At the end of the day, a tomato is still a tomato. Most stores have generic brands for a lot of products. And keep in mind that in the United States, all food manufacturers have to follow standards in order to sell their products. These generic brands may have the same quality as other brands, but they will be less expensive. However, make sure to still read the ingredients list.

Make Way for the Mighty Coupon

Make sure to sign up for services that can get you the exact discounts that you need. Try to check out the websites of your favorite where you usually get your organic products. They will most likely have printable coupons that you can use.

Buy in Bulk

Many healthy foods are available in bulk, and they usually come in cheaper prices. A lot also have longer shelf lives and can be used in many different ways. Make sure to keep them in airtight containers to preserve freshness. Some examples are brown rice, oats, beans, dried fruit, and some nuts.

Cook in Bulk

Making large batches of meals produces leftovers that you can use many times over. This technique saves both time and money. Buying or making single-serve foods are expensive, and most of the ingredients will go to waste. You can try making multiple servings of food and freeze for later in the week. Leftovers make very good salads, burritos, stews, or stir-fries.

Stay in More

Cooking your own meals versus eating out in vegan restaurants is definitely much cheaper. Plenty of restaurants tend to overprice their meals, and some may not be that nutritious after all. When you cook at home, you have control over the budget, what to cook, what ingredients to get, and how to use the leftovers.

Grow Your Own Garden

Want to have fresh and natural foods at the tips of your fingertips? Easy! Grow your own! There are plenty of foods that you can plant in your own backyards. It’s a super cheap and easy way to make sure you’re eating healthy. Vegetable patches can be set up quickly. You can start with some herbs, then plant seeds of specific fruits or vegetables you want.

Take Up Running

All you need is a good pair of running shoes, and you’re good to go. This high-intensity exercise can do plenty of things for your body. It helps keep you fit, it improves your endurance, it keeps knees, joints, and other bones strong and healthy, it can reduce your risk of cancer, and it can add years to your life. It does great on your emotional and mental well-being as well. Running improves brain function, makes you happier, and helps keep your emotions in check. The best part? It doesn’t cost a thing to run! And you can do it anywhere too.

Hello, Internet

The good thing about today is how the Internet has so much to offer. YouTube, most especially, has plenty of free and accessible videos of practically anything under the sun. You can go and check out exercise routines, yoga sessions, Pilates classes, you name it. And you can do all these in the comforts of your own home, without spending anything.
