Technology has definitely made our personal and professional life easier. Modernization and digitalization has reduced human labour in almost every sector. However, research also suggests that too much availability of technology and electronic gadgets can actually raise our stress levels.

Many people use computer for long time without taking a break and this causes health problems such as eye strain, neck pain, wrist pain, etc. Apart from this, strict deadlines, unrealistic targets, demanding managers, unfair management, etc. can become a reason for mental stress and tension at workplaces.

Stress doesn’t care if you’re a waiter or a CEO. Studies indicate the stress levels for working professionals may increase proportionally with position and salary increments.

This means people who have found their “dream job” also have stressful deadlines, performance expectations and other responsibilities. Although stress can motivate you to perform better, being under work stress each day can overwhelm your life.

Work stress has been associated with anxiety and studies report that almost 50% of people who work in call centres report suffering from anxiety due to work stress and target deadlines. Although work stress seems to take a toll on your mental health, it can also make you suffer physically.

Nearly 80% of people who work on computer for more than 4 hours without taking a break, tend to develop chronic neck, shoulder and back pain. Another study revealed shocking information that people with high stress jobs showed 22% higher stroke risk than those with low stress position.

Work stress is associated with a lot of serious health consequences and therefore stress management at work places is essential. Experts suggest that stress management is a team effort and, both employee as well as employers need to work together to make their work environment stress free.
