When new students pick up yoga, they usually have a lot of questions. Learning a new way of moving, exercising, and meditating can be overwhelming for a new student. There are some questions usually come up. One of the most common questions I see beginner yogis ask is “Can I do yoga daily?” or “How often can I do yoga?”
You can do yoga multiple times a day if you’re so inclined.
You can do a quick 5 minute yoga practice first thing in the morning to get your blood flowing. In the afternoon, you can take a break from working and do a few minutes of yoga. And in the evening you can wind down with a restorative or calming yoga practice.
One of the most important things as a beginner yogi is to remember to listen to your body. If you’re still exhausted from your morning vinyasa, maybe you should try some restorative hatha in the evening instead of 20 Moon Salutations.
Conversely, it’s O.K. to take a break from yoga for a day or two. If you’re doing deep stretching, your muscles will need a day of rest to repair, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do gentle yoga.
A lot of yogis find once a day is the perfect amount of yoga. Experiment and find what’s best for you.
