The summer solstice is an amazing day. The solstice marks that yearly moment when the sun is at its highest position in the sky for the longest period of time. There are traditions across all cultures – some centuries-old — that have celebrated this seasonal pivot point.
Sponsored by Athleta, free Mind over Madness yoga classes will be offered in Times Square this Solstice, June 21st. 2015 marks the 13th year of Solstice in Times Square on June 21st, which has recently been declared by the UN as International Yoga Day! I am so excited to tell you I’ll be in NYC for the Solstice in Times Square event June 21st! I hope you can meet me there and say hi!
“On International Day of Yoga and Summer Solstice I invite everyone to wake up, look up, reach up, climb up like the sun to your highest good,” Douglass Stewart, co-founder of Solstice in Times Square, told BroadwayWorld.com.
Solstice in Times Square Class Schedule:
9:00 am – 10:00 am: Lauren Imparato
11:15 am – 12:30 pm: Douglass Stewart
2:00 pm – 3:30 pm: Rajashree Choudhury, Donna Rubin, and Jennifer Lobo
4:30 pm – 5:30 pm: Mary Dana Abbott
6:30 pm – 7:30 pm: Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman Yee (This is the one I’m signed up for)
(Click here to read more information about the instructors.)
Since all Solstice classes are free, consider a donation equal to the amount you would normally pay for a yoga class. There are three NYC-based yoga-related charities which have been selected this year: Bent on Learning, Exhale to Inhale and Urban Zen.
