People come to the yoga mat for a number of reasons. Some of them want to lose weight. Some want to become more flexible. Some want to relax. Whatever the reason may be, YogaLean, a new book hitting Amazon September 9th, has the answer.

YOGALEAN: Poses and Recipes to Promote Weight Loss and Vitality for Life is written by internationally acclaimed yoga expert and instructor Beth Shaw, the founder and president of YogaFit Training Systems, the largest yoga school in North America. I have been reading an advanced copy of the book since July, and I can hardly put it down.

It’s worth noting that I’m not usually one to read fitness books. And when I do, I am discouraged part way through and I end up giving the book away. There is not much in this world I dislike more than counting calories and being told I can never have pizza again.

Luckily, that’s not what YogaLean is all about. Yoga LeanIt’s like Beth Shaw wrote this book for me.

YogaLean is not at all about absolutes or deprivation like other wellness books out there. It’s not about counting calories or never eating pizza again. It’s simply about making better decisions.

In this book Beth Shaw teaches you how to make choices to improve your health and overall well-being through yoga, and conscious eating habits.

That is definitely more my speed than weighing out my food and counting calories for every meal.

Inspired by several lean influencers over the years (including a good friend who is a celebrity stylist, and a competitive cyclist in San Francisco), Beth realized people can achieve their ultimate health goals by developing what she calls a Lean Consciousness.

Lean Consciousness is a mind/body way of being in which all decisions and choices move you to greater health. Sounds pretty good, right? It is. Developing a Lean Consciousness will permeate all aspects of your life. Your physical, mental, and emotional health will improve, and you will feel lighter.

Beth says, “There is absolute truth to the adage ‘You are what you eat,’ and unfortunately, our bodies are bombarded with unnatural chemicals and additives that are affecting every aspect of our lives and well-being.”

And she’s right. When I begun developing my Lean Consciousness and replacing unhealthy choices with healthier options, I started to naturally resist the unhealthy items.

But this resistance doesn’t mean I have to give up all things yummy. Beth provides lots of healthy, delicious recipes including Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie, Coconut Almond Oatmeal Banana Cookies, and Baked Fall/Winter Fruit.
