20 Pounds Younger is more than a diet book.
There are a lot of yoga and diet books on the market. At the time of this writing there are 113,057 diet books on Amazon. But 20 Pounds Younger stands out from all the rest. If there’s only one diet book you purchase this year, this is it.

Written by Michele Promaulayko, Editor-in-Chief of Yahoo! Health, 20 Pounds Younger is a wellness book that puts the leading experts in yoga, weight loss, nutrition, and anti-aging at your finger tips. Experts like Gabrielle Bernstein, Kathryn Budig, Francesca Fusco, Keri Peterson, and Laura Roxburgh come together to create the go-to health resource.

“As I entered my 40s, I wasn’t resigned to the inevitability of being less healthy, fit, and energetic,” Michele told me. “You always hear people talk about slowing metabolisms and weight gain, but I was not about to go down without a fight! So I became really focused on figuring out what the most effective–and sustainable– tenets of health and fitness are. It’s my job to talk to the top exercise and nutrition experts in the country, so I tapped that brain trust to help me figure out a plan that would provide lasting results. And then I wanted to share what I discovered. Turns out that is isn’t a fight so much as a surrender to doing things smarter, not harder.”

The eating plan is focused on mindful eating, “which is critical because it teaches you how to recognize real hunger cues so that you don’t fall prey to emotional eating triggers,” Michele explained. “Another key component is a strength-training plan—one of my missions is to get more women interested in lifting weights since it builds lean muscle mass, which burns more fat, even at rest. And it increases bone density.”

“I also thought it was important to addresses the impact that stress has on your energy level, weight, and overall looks,” Michele continued, “so I’ve included info on how to erase the signs of aging brought on by stress, including learning to meditate. The big transformation is to be more mindful when it comes to health and fitness and less reactive. ”

What I like about 20 Pounds Younger is it isn’t just all about dieting. It’s not about eating less, and counting calories. In that regard, it really isn’t a diet book. It’s about eating mindfully. It’s about improving your body image, and reducing stress. The tips and techniques in this book are based in science, not pseudo-science like so many books out there. 20 Pounds Younger is a lifestyle book that is here to help you create the healthiest you.

My favourite chapter is “How Hormones Eff Up Your Diet,” and is an essential read for any woman. Men have it easy, their hormones don’t change much. Ours change constantly, and sometimes it feels like we are fighting an uphill battle. My next favourite chapter is “Yoga Your Way.” 20 Pounds Younger doesn’t automatically assume the reader is super bendy, and the yoga routines and poses can easily be modified.

Michele hopes people realise, “how important it is to prioritize self-care–taking a little time each day to destress or eat healthfully or move a little goes a long way when it comes to health and happiness. There’s nothing heroic about running yourself into the ground.”
