This coming weekend Yogaraj CP, an Indian yoga instructor currently based in Hong Kong, will attempt to beat his own record for number of yoga positions held continuously. Yogaraj currently holds the record of 1,019 yoga asanas held in a row. This record was achieved in a 28-hour yoga marathon in Hong Kong in 2009.
February 13th through the 15th, he is going to be holding a 40-hour yoga marathon, also in Hong Kong, and attempting to do 1,500 yoga poses in a row.
“I can do between 500 and 1,000 randomly, but I will use pictures to remind me. I must hold each position for a minimum of five seconds,” Yogaraj told the South China Morning Post.
In keeping with Guinness World Record Guidelines, he is allowed a 5 minute break every hour, or a 15 minute break every three hours.
Yogaraj, translated to King of Yoga, began practicing at the age of 5, and began teaching when he was 12. He hold several yoga related records. In 2003 he held a headstand for 2 hours and 40 minutes; in 2011 he did 23 asanas while balancing on a moving motorcycle.
This current record-breaking attempt is supported by the Indian Consulate. And if Yogaraj succeeds, he will dedicate the record to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was instrumental in persuading the United Nations to declare June 21st International Yoga Day.

Yogaraj will hold his first posture beginning at 7pm on Friday February 13th and, if he succeeds, will finish at 11am on Sunday.
