Cultivating Wellness with Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Map Day Planner

This Desire Day Map can help you get your stuff in order | 42Yogis

Cultivating wellness is one of the hardest things we have to do. I’ve tried for years to become healthy. I continually struggle with keeping up healthy habits and creating the life I want. That’s something I’m sure you can understand.

I’m trying to juggle my obligations, interests, and personal relationships, including:

  • 42Yogis
  • Consulting clients
  • Cleaning the house
  • My marriage
  • Painting
  • Spending time with family and friends
  • Going to the gym
  • Yoga
  • Roller Skating
  • Sleeping

These are all things I chase for one reason or another. And I find myself chasing them all, running around like a headless chicken, running myself ragged, until I become so emotionally depleted that I need to spend two days in bed ignoring the world.

I believe Wellness is an all-encompassing state of being that extends beyond your physical self. Wellness takes work. Wellness is a process. But until you understand why you are craving wellness, achieving it can be very challenging. Each thing we desire, each thing we chase, comes from somewhere deep within. We are trying to live the life we think we want without seeing how it aligns with our values.

Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Map program is based on the belief that if we chase things without evaluating our values (or Core Desired Feelings, as Danielle calls them), there’s a large chance things won’t line up. When our actions don’t align with our values, we end up miserable.

Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Map Day Planner is based on these same principals. When I first heard of Danielle’s Desire Map Day Planner, I couldn’t see how it helps you cultivate wellness. All I saw is how it helps you plan goals. But when I started using it, I saw the real value.

The Desire Map Day Planner starts off with a note from Danielle that clarifies the practice of Desire Mapping, and continues with a few pointers on the practice of desire mapping. On the next page you map out your Core Desired Feelings and major goals for the coming year. Throughout the year, Danielle asks you to reevaluate your life, Core Desired Feelings, and goals.

Every day as you use this day planner you are asked a series of questions to help you generate action that leads to your Core Desired Feelings, intentions, and goals. Each page also includes several blank lines where you can fill out your schedule for the day, or make notes about your day, including reflections on your yoga practice. I have decided to use my Desire Map Day Planner as an art journal where I can express my creativity while working towards my Core Desired Feelings.

It’s worth noting the Desire Map Day Planner is not (despite the name) a day planner. It’s a life planner. It’s a spiritual and physical road map to your best self. It’s a self-written guidebook to wellness, and deeply abundant happiness. It’s a handwritten self-portrait of who you are and who you want to be.

I love the Desire Map Day Planner. This book helps you be mindful, reflective, honest, optimistic, on time, and organized. Finally, there is a day planner that perfectly melds your spiritual and literal to-do lists.

A couple notes on the Desire Map Day Planner best practices:

  1. Be kind to yourself. Your Desire Map Day Planner is a work in progress. It’s dynamic – not static. It will evolve as you evolve.
  2. It’s O.K. to repeat goals, intentions, and actions day after day. In fact, it’s really helpful. Repeating actions turns them into habits.
  3. At the end of the day, take any notes you have about your day, and plan out your goals for the next day. When you wake up, start your day by reviewing your goals, action steps, and desires. Start your day in a state of positivity.
  4. Be aware of your language. I’m a big believer we manifest what we say. Saying things – and writing them down – solidifies their truth in our minds. Try to avoid negative writing about yourself and your life. Write about yourself from a place of love.
  5. Treat this book as sacred. Your evolutionary guidebook is special, and should be cherished.
