“Intention Wins” – Part 1:
Part 1 of “Intention Wins”, an all-levels, full-body Vinyasa yoga flow series, focuses on practicing Chaturanga Dandasana (Four-Limbed Staff Pose).
For this practice, grab 2 blocks to help support your alignment and build strength safely. This is especially helpful for strengthening the wrists, shoulders, and core—while also relieving pain and reducing strain in these areas.
This foundational yet challenging posture invites you to shift your mindset—away from perfection and toward presence—allowing intention, effort, and awareness to guide your practice from the inside out.
Chaturanga Dandasana is a powerful, strength-building posture designed to:
• Strengthen the arms, shoulders, and core
• Build stability through the entire body
• Support healthy alignment in Vinyasa transitions
• Improve control and body awareness
• Help relieve wrist, shoulder, and upper body discomfort through proper engagement.
As you move through this practice, you’ll be actively engaging and strengthening:
• Triceps and shoulders
• Pectoral muscles (chest)
• Core stabilizers (deep abdominal support)
• Spinal stabilizers (protecting the back)
• Quadriceps and glutes for full-body integration
This pose also supports key alignment patterns that carry into your everyday movement:
• Keeping elbows close to the ribs (not winging out)
• Lowering with control rather than collapsing
• Maintaining a strong, straight line through the body
• Engaging the core to protect the low back
• Distributing effort evenly throughout the body
But this practice goes deeper than the physical body. Intention wins isn’t about how “perfect” the pose looks—it’s about showing up, trying, and staying present with the process. The reps, the effort, the willingness to keep going… that is the practice.
Chaturanga can be tough—and that’s exactly where the shift happens. When we stop chasing the outcome and start honoring the effort, we build real strength—physically and mentally.
Practicing this mindset can help you:
• Build resilience and consistency
• Let go of perfectionism
• Strengthen the mind-body connection
• Develop confidence through effort
• Trust yourself and your process
Class Flow
In this practice we will:
• Center with breathwork
• Set an intention to let effort be enough
• Warm up the wrists, shoulders, and core
• Break down Chaturanga with mindful alignment
• Build strength through repetition and modification
• Gently cool down
• End with a grounding Savasana

One way that I’m going to let intention win this week is: showing up fully, even when it’s hard—and reminding myself that trying is already enough.
